WANNABE Patrick Moores celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Wycombe Astronomical Society with a new 3,000 telescope.

The group held its party a tthe Woodrow High House in Cherry Lane, Amersham, on September 15 with guest star astronomer Dr Heather Couper.

The new telescope, which was funded by the National Lottery Fund, will be placed in the observatory at Woodrow High House.

Paul Millington, the secretary of the society said more than 90 members of the society turned up. He added that he was really pleased they had been together so long. "It all started when a group of people just got involved and it just went from strength to strength. When I joined there were about 30 members and it has just grown," he said.

The new telescope has been adapted so disabled people will be able to use it. Paul added: " Anyone can join our society. We can help people to learn about the night sky."

Meetings are held on every third Wednesday of the month at the High House. For further information visit the society's website at www.wycombeastro.org.uk
